Yoga helps tone, relax, increase flexibility, strengthen, and bring the body back into balance. Classes are approached with gentleness - emphasis is on self-care, and compassion towards the body is paramount.
Students are asked to attune to their own body and individual needs, rather than follow every move regardless of whether it feels "right" for them. The value of a posture is seen in relation to its function, not its form. Therefore, asanas (poses) are modified as needed to suit a person's individual ability and needs.
Regular asana practice deepens our self-awareness, and helps improve the function of the body's systems.
Breath is the key to life. In the root languages of modern cultures, the word for breath is also the word for spirit and life force. Breath work is emphasized throughout.
